City Palace, Jaipur The natural gateway to Rajasthan, Jaipur is the city of living tradition resplendent with forts, beautiful havelis and colorful bazaars. It has all the trappings of a modern metropolis but yet flavored strongly with an age-old charm that never fails to baffle the travelers. The old Jaipur city painted in pink can grip any visitor with admiration. Stunning backdrop of majestic forts; Nahargarh, Amer, Jaigarh and Moti Doongari stands tall as testimony of bygone era.

Jaipur is part of the famous Golden Triangle Tourist circuit that includes Delhi and Agra. The city has has an excellent infrastructure to support the tourism. Tourist Attractions

City Palace:
City Palace of Jaipur is an imposing blend of Mughal and traditional Rajputana architecture. The vast complex occupies almost one seventh of the walled city. This palace was originally built by Maharaja Jai Singh II of the Kachhwaha clan of Rajputs. Several modifications have been made to the palace complex by many of his successors.

Hawa Mahal:
The most gorgeous and captivating piece of work by the Rajput rulers, Hawa Mahal is one of the major landmarks of Jaipur. It is an integral part of city palace, an extension of the Zenana (women's chambers) standing away from the palace. This five storey building with unusual architecture was originally conceived to allow royal household ladies to watch the everyday life and royal processions in the city without being seen by others.

Amber Fort:

The fort is situated at Amber, the former capital of the Kachhwaha Rajputs on a hillside overlooking Maotha lake. This massive fort houses some of the noteworthy architectural marvels including 'Diwan-E-Khas', the 'Sheesh Mahal' and the 'Jai Mandir' with exquisite mirror work. All built in white marble and red sandstone, the fort looks stunning on the rocky terrain.

Jantar Mantar:
Jantar Mantar is the largest stone observatory in the world. It is one of the five observatories built by Maharaja Jai Singh II between 1727 and 1733. It has a remarkable collection of architectural astronomical instruments for measuring time, predicting eclipses and to ascertain other astronomical events.

Silver jewelery, semi-precious stones and handcrafted footwear are other highlights of the bustling bazaars of Jaipur.

Night life:
Night life at Jaipur is certainly regal as the pink city itself. The dusk give rise to whole new world, where people enjoy listening music, watching puppet shows and traditional dances. Raj Mandir is one of the famous theaters of India which offers night shows. The city does not have many discotheques but there are few bars and pubs.

For those looking to enjoy a hearty meal, Jaipur has a lot of eating joints that offer an exciting menu of traditional Rajasthani food. Visitors can try dal-bati-churma, the most popular local specialty served in all the local restaurants.

Travel Information

The Jaipur International Airport is called Sanganer Airport. There are domestic flight connections to Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Jodhpur, Udaipur and several other places. There are international flights from Jaipur to Dubai and Muscat.

Jaipur is connected by railway to all the major cities including Delhi, Agra, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, etc.

A convenient mode of travel to Jaipur is by road. Regular bus service of AC and Deluxe Coaches are available.
