Amidst the sand dunes and thorny vegetation of Thar
Desert lies the glory of Rajasthan, Jodhpur. The city was founded in 1459 by
Rao Jhoda Ji, a Rajput chief of the valiant Rathore clan. The majestic
forts, royal palaces and temples retains the grandeur of the city. It

Situated in the steep hill, Meghana fort is amongst the largest
forts in India. The grandeur of numerous palaces in the fort narrates the
saga of Jhodpuri sculpture. Every palace boasts exquisitely latticed
windows, carved panels, elaborately adorned walls. The fort covers an
extensive area of 5 km on a perpendicular hill, which presents a majestic
view on city horizon.
Jaswant Thada:
This architectural landmark is located close to the fort complex. It is a
white marble memorial (cenotaphs) built in commemoration of Maharaja Jaswant
Singh II. The cenotaph displays some of the rare portraits of the rulers and
Maharajas of Jodhpur. A visit inside the cenotaphs with some villagers would
bring forward the reverence they still hold for the royal family.
Umaid Bhawan Palace:
Umaid Bhawan Palace is the last of the great palaces of India and one of
the largest residences in the world, set amidst 26 acres of lush gardens.
The royal family of Jodhpur still lives in the part of the palace. Another
portion of the palace is a well maintained museum that exhibits an array of
items belonging to the Maharaja and the royal family such weapons, antiques
& fascinating clocks, crockery and trophies.

Raj Ranchhodji Temple:
This temple was built by queen Jadechi Rajkanwar after the death of her
husband, king Jaswant Singh. Major part of the temple is constructed of red
sandstone, carved with beautiful filigree work. The temple houses the statue
of Ranchhodji made of black marble. It has green, yellow and blue glasses
beautifully decorated on the main door.
Jodhpur is tourist's favorite destination in Rajasthan. It takes the
